Swimwear Fabric Guide for OEM Projects
How nylon, polyester, spandex, lining, and recycled materials affect fit and cost.
Fabric choice affects the final hand feel, fit recovery, support level, print result, and cost structure of a swimwear order. For most OEM projects, the discussion begins with whether the line is fashion-led, support-led, active, kids, or resort focused.
Nylon and spandex blends are commonly chosen when a softer hand feel and closer body fit are priorities. Polyester and spandex blends are often selected when colorfastness, print performance, and durability are more important. Recycled options can also be developed when the buyer needs a stronger sustainability story.
Fabric weight matters. Lighter fabrics can feel more fashion-forward and soft, while heavier bases may provide better hold, support, and structure. The right weight depends on silhouette, support demand, and the customer’s price level.
Lining, cups, elastics, rings, sliders, and mesh components should be reviewed together with the main shell fabric. A premium-looking shell can still produce an unstable fit if the lining or elastic is not matched correctly.
For printed programs, the factory should confirm whether the artwork is intended for all-over print, engineered placement, stripe matching, or panel-specific printing. Print scale and color depth often look different after stretch, so strike-off or lab dip review is important.
Before bulk booking, ask the factory to confirm fabric composition, width, weight, stretch direction, expected shrinkage behavior, and wash or pool-performance considerations. A good OEM discussion always links fabric choice to fit, branding level, MOQ, and shipment schedule rather than treating fabric as a visual choice only.
